Heidelberg to offer CFP certification courses
November 26, 2018

TIFFIN – Jobs in the financial planning industry are expected to grow by 30 percent by 2024. With this increasing demand, Heidelberg University, as part of the Lower Cost Models for Independent Colleges Consortium, will begin offering online courses for individuals looking to earn Certified Financial Planner certification.

The seven-course curriculum, launching in January, is designed for individuals in the financial services industry and specifically those looking to complete necessary coursework toward the Certified Financial Planner exam, considered the gold standard in the personal financial planning field.

Any financial services industry professional with a bachelor's degree is eligible to enroll for any or all of the courses in the series.

Kurt Loeffler, assistant professor of accounting and finance at Heidelberg, will be the instructor for the second online course in the series, Risk Management and Insurance Planning. He teaches courses in Heidelberg’s Insurance and Risk Management track as part of the undergraduate business administration program in the School of Business, Computer Science & Information Technology.

“Heidelberg’s Risk Management and Insurance Planning course, along with the other courses in the CFP series, can open the door to new and better opportunities at a time when the need for personal financial planning expertise is greater than ever,” Loeffler said. “Students who complete the Risk Management and Insurance Planning course would definitely have a leg up if they choose to pursue their CFP certification.”

Each of the seven courses is delivered online in eight week-sessions. Dates for Spring 2019 are Jan. 7-March 3 and March 4-April 28.

The Risk Management and Insurance Planning course is the second in the sequence. The others are: General Principles of Financial Planning, Investment Planning, Tax Planning, Retirement Savings and Income Planning, Estate Planning and a Capstone Course.
