Tiffin University to Host Acclaimed Swedish Vocal Ensemble, Open to the Community

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY, Tiffin, OH—The Real Group, a globally-acclaimed a cappella ensemble from Sweden will present a rare Ohio concert at Tiffin University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Marion Center located at 235 Miami Street.

One of the leading forces in the world of vocal music today, The Real Group is known for creative jazz originals and reworkings of popular favorites. Their performances display a combination of vocal artistry, insatiable humor and unique personal touch, making their unmistakable sound accessible to everyone from those exploring music for the first time to the most demanding ear.

Formed at Stockholm’s Royal Academy of Music in 1989, The Real Group has enjoyed an international touring career for nearly 30 years, with highlights including prestigious events such as the Queen of Sweden's birthday (when they performed the ABBA classic 'Dancing Queen' together with the former ABBA member Anni-Frid Lyngstad) and performing at the opening of the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. In its more than three decades of performing and recording, the group has released 20 CDs, including the 2017 disc, Elements.

“People probably don't understand how special an opportunity this is for fans of great music," said Brad Rees, TU's Executive Director of Arts Programs. "The Real Group doesn't tour in the U.S. very often, so we were extremely fortunate that they happened to have an open day as they drove between the east coast and Chicago show the day before and after."

The Real Group will also present an informal vocal music workshop for TU students and visiting high school choirs. The workshop begins at 2 p.m. in The Marion Center and is free and open to the public. 

"TU's a cappella group got to meet current and former members of The Real Group while participating in Italy's Vocalmente Festival this past August," said Rees.  "One current and two founding members served as musical coaches for TU's students, and it was truly a transformative experience for them. So, getting to sing for and get feedback from these amazing artists again just a short time later and here in Tiffin is incredibly exciting for our students."
