TIFFIN UNIVERSITY, Tiffin, OH—Spring Awakening, a rock musical, will be performed by the Tiffin University Music Department on February 20-23.
Spring Awakening introduces adolescents in Germany during 1891, examining issues of sexuality, self-discovery, and belonging. “It is a landmark production about coming of age and societal expectations that will inspire faculty-led discussions, conversations, and forums on campus for TU students and the community,” said Aly Horn, Director. “Additionally,” Horn said, “it has had two successful Broadway runs since its premiere in 2006, earning three Tony awards.” The music, written by rocker Duncan Sheik, earned a Tony for Best Score, and a Grammy for Best Soundtrack.
Led by Noah Sgambellone as Melchior Gabor (Lexington, Ohio, Commercial Music major), Mallory Johnson as Wendla Bergman (Mason, Ohio, Forensic Science major) and Carter Bennett as Moritz Stiefel (Trempeleau, WI, Commercial Music major), the cast features the talents of nineteen Tiffin University students.
"Spring Awakening will have a big impact on audiences -- and our campus," said Brad Rees, Executive Director of Arts Programs. "It is one of the best musicals of our generation, with phenomenal alternative rock songs that will showcase our student talent."
