New Member: Splash of Love from Home

In March 2019 Carrie, who describes herself as coming from a “military family,” created “Splash of Love from Home,” a project to send care packages and messages of encouragement to military service members currently deployed. Carrie and project volunteers managed to send out 100 care packages in 2019 and 108 care packages in 2020. They have already committed to sending 150 care packages to an Ohio unit to start off 2021.

Every package Splash of Love from Home sends to a deployed service member contains some kind of puzzle book (crosswords, etc.), pens or pencils, small hygiene items and a variety of snacks and meals that can be eaten on-the go, such as beef jerky, cookies, peanuts or microwavable macaroni and cheese, among many other quick edible options. Splash of Love from Home also collects colored pictures from kids and notes of encouragement to pack with the rest of the items they send.

Carrie said the group is always looking for volunteer help and for donations to help them ship the care packages Splash of Love from Home also accepts donated items they can put in packages, and are currently seeking snacks, meals on-the-go, “toys,” and colored pictures and notes from kids. The group is also looking for a donated space to store and assemble all the items that go into the care packages.
